My Lovely Little Ship

by Smakalicious … I don’t care how sleek and polished your T2 sister looks, I promise to stand by you, my lovely starship. Your shiny new successor might be faster, more powerful, or simple put, better than you. But we, you and I, shared so many precious and unfading moments, right? We can’t just throw it away and go on, as if nothing had happened. We’ve gone through good and bad, but we managed to survive gazillions of grave situations, haven’t we? I know, that the new ship has more power grid, more highs, mids and lows, hell it has more firepower than you … but even that wouldn’t sway me because I am committed to you, ok? I’m happy we are talking about all this now.
What you said? You want me to stop looking at the chart with the price trend of that other ship? Uh, I’m not … I’m, … I’m … just looking at its shield resistances and its cap recharge time. You know, you need to start trusting me here! You can’t just start monitoring my wallet from now on and holding my ship purchase order history against me!
What? What do you mean by saying, you don’t want to undock anymore? You’ve unloaded all my Navy Missiles form the missile bay and the cargo? You have stripped the ship fitting from your slots and won’t let the drones go from the bay? And you are currently not accepting any repairs to your hull until this is fully discussed? Well, that’s just … great!! *sigh*
Look, I can understand how you might feel. Don’t take it out in public. And if you want to throw all that attitude at me, then why don’t I bring up the fact that I will never ever be truly satisfied with your insufficent shield cap? And since we are being totally honest here, your cap is kinda crap and *cough* your targeting range is too small. What’s that? You’re sorry for being so inflammatory and rude. Ok ok … I accept your apology.
But remember, you being jealous won’t get you no where. There will always be other fancy new ships all over New Eden, and I may be tempted. Yeah, I’ll admit it, I’ll gaze after one of those ships, but there’s no crime in that. It’s completely natural to check out the looks of another ship, but I promise I will not stroke anyone else’s computer console or come closer to anyone but you … most of the time.
Let’s remember the good times, like when I got you. Look how happy I am! *smile*
With many new ships being released by CCP in the previous and the upcoming expansion:
Are you gonna stand by your old, rusty bucket, or trade it in for a newer, shinier and more powerful ship? Discuss.

Stay with ships I know what the h*ll to do with, until I’m sure I know what I’d use the new one for.

First of all – big props for the article Smak – i love your way with words!
For me it all comes down to the ship itself – I guess in reality how faithful it is to me.
I had no problem unceremoniously dumping by previously beloved Myrmidon, especially when it started refusing to let all 5 of my heavy drones out to play at the same time, and moved into an Ishtar instead.
But the opposite is true of my mission Dominix “Exxon Valdiz” (its a great tanker) – this ship is unchanged since I first put her together over a year ago except for an upgrade to T2 railguns – she has served me brilliantly and although I had a brief and loveless fling with a Hyperion (shhh don’t tell her please) I expect we will be happy together for the rest of my level 4 missioning career – or maybe just until I can persuade that cheeky little Kronos to open her doors for me!

excellent article Smak. I’m still trying to see if you are really talking about your ship there, but heh…
I also tend to get deeply in love with my ships, to the point I refuse to fly a Dominix because I can’t set foot in something so ugly. But there’s always a much sexier hull flying out there, and my punisher finally accepted that monogamy was not an option.
I still get her out in the park on sundays…
And you always end up having to upgrade because npcs are stronger in your new mission, or player better equipped in your nice new corner of space. No really, Eve wants you to be unfaithful, you can’t do anything against it.

For the near and intermediate future, I plan on sticking with the “cheap date.” We have fun together, she doesn’t require a lot of upkeep, and she is much more willing to get down and dirty with me or go in to riskier situations. She may not have as many bells and whistles as those higher end models that look so nice, others may be more skilled. But I can’t afford their lifestyle, and I can afford hers.

If Han saw a megathron for sale you bet your ass he would.
